If you are experiencing breastfeeding
difficulties, or are pregnant and would like to attend a private or
group breastfeeding class, please call me to set up an appointment.
I am thrilled to offer breastfeeding consultations in the comfort of your own home. This enables me to see you in your own environment and offer practical suggestions based on the realities of your life. An initial consult lasts an average of an hour and a half. During this time I observe a feeding and take a full history of mom and baby. I will also examine the mother's anatomy, examine the baby's oral structure, make suggestions for a more comfortable latch if necessary, measure baby's intake by pre and post-feed weight checks, troubleshoot nursing difficulties and develop a written care plan that details my suggestions for you to take home. After our visit I fax my notes and observations to the mother's and baby's doctors to facilitate communication between care providers.
Each consult is highly individualized and is always adapted to meet your personal needs. Follow-up phone help is included in the cost of each consultation and I maintain close contact with you until the reasons for our visit improve. While I strive to address all of your concerns during the appointment, there may be situations where subsequent consults are recommended. Follow-up visits are charged at a reduced rate.
Some common issues addressed during a consult are:
- Painful feedings.
- Damaged nipples.
- Concerns about milk supply.
- Baby not latching.
- Insufficient weight gain.
- Birth trauma.
- Pumping and hand expressing.
- Going back to work.
- Fussy baby.
- Difficulty latching to one side.
- Past breast surgeries.
- Encouraging a bottle fed baby back to breast.
$90 initial visit
$50 all follow-up visits
*Home visits are provided to local residents who live in the East Valley (Gilbert, Mesa, Queen Creek, Apache Junction, Tempe). Home visits outside of a 25 mile radius from me will be charged an additional travel charge starting at $20.
These fees cover the entire consult and are not hourly based. This is because I want to offer you the best value possible without skimping on time, rushing our visit together, or condensing an hour and a half worth of questions into one hour. The cost of a consult can oftentimes save considerable money in the future. Breastfeeding saves each family an average of at least $1500 a year in the cost of formula alone. If cost is a concern, please contact me and we can discuss the various options available to you.
Some insurance companies do reimburse for Lactation services. My services are private pay only (payable by cash, check, or credit card) and I am not able to process insurance claims at this time. Please contact your individual insurance company for questions regarding reimbursement.
